DOROTHY’S TREE

Skill Rating: Green 1

The entrance to Dorothy’s Tree is a just reward after the long climb of Heartbreak Hill.

Winding through the trees, shade is virtually always available in this trail.

Slightly wider Trail than most

Consisting of slightly wider than average single track, the switchbacks encountered here are a great introduction to techniques that are essential to mountainbiking at all levels.

The shade is great in summer

More experienced riders tend to use Dorothy’s Tree as a skills warm-up on their first lap but the trail is really designed for the beginner rider. Beginners are well
served doing repeated laps of this trail, turning left at the exit onto The Main Drag and climbing back up to the entrance, to perfect through the tried and tested method trial and error cornering and braking skills before moving on to more challenging trails.

Its all about balance

Riders who are observant will notice one of the trees within the area that Dorothy’s Tree negotiates (visible from The Main Drag) has a commemorative plaque with the birth and death dates of Dorothy, whose ashes were put on this section of veld. We thought that anyone who loved this area so much deserved to be remembered by us folks who are also getting so much pleasure from nature here.
