PLEASE NOTE: LOGWOOD BIKE HAVEN CLOSED ITS DOORS FOR THE LAST TIME IN FEBRUARY 2008 AFTER TAKING MANY HIGH VELDT MTB RIDERS FROM RIDING DIRT ROADS TO AN ADDICTION TO TWISTY GROOMED SINGLE TRACK. THIS PAGE REMAINS BECAUSE SO MANY RIDERS ASKED US TO KEEP IT UP, A NOSTALGIA THING FOR SOUTH AFRICAS FIRST COMMERCIAL BIKE PARK.
THE MAIN DRAG
Skill Rating: Green 1
As soon as you exit the Clubhouse the action starts. The Main Drag is he only jeep track on Logwood Bike Haven, and joins all the single track (said in hushed tones) trails.
At the Clubhouse there are a series of “One Way Only” signs sending you off to the right, through the "Shimano S" and down to the Big T intersection. At this point you will see the first of many “Two Way” signs.
The dual direction on The Main Drag was instigated to accommodate the many families with young children that enjoy the Main Drag, but lack the stamina to make a full lap around the perimeter of the Bike Haven, but the trails on the Bike Haven are best experienced travelling in a anti-clockwise direction on The Main Drag.
Turning left at the Big T intersection will send you across the “Transverse Shortcut” section of The Main Drag, past the entrance to Green Cathedral and ending at another T intersection at the maintenance entrance gate. Turning left at this intersection will take you back to the Clubhouse via another One Way section of The Main Drag. This “left then left” route constitutes a much shortened version of the Main Drag requiring very little skill or fitness and is the most popular with children on small wheel bikes who are still learning to ride. For this reason we ask more experienced adult riders to be super aware and considerate when using this section of the Bike Haven.
Turning right at the Big T will take you off on The Main Drag adventure as it was meant to be experienced. Passing the entrances to The North Shore and Zombie Birdhouse will bring you to sections of The Dark Side trail that is visible from The Main Drag. All but the most battle hardened experts will be amazed by the things to be seen.
A long downhill section follows the northern fence-line, ultimately turning right for a long climb up Heartbreak Hill, that just seems to go on for much longer than you would have thought possible at first look!
Once at the top riders are rewarded with a fun twisty downhill section through trees before climbing up onto the dam wall at the entrance to Water Worx and continuing through a twisty section past the swimming pool and uphill to the maintenance gate, rejoining the shortened route to the Clubhouse.
If you would like some tips on how to ride berms and humps and other trail features just go to the REGISTER button and grab a password. It’s free and then you will access menus that you cannot see now with text, pictures and video instruction.
