I know it’s only the middle of the week…but what a week!

Tuesday’s heat wave afternoon saw more testers destroyed than product on the Bicycling Magazine Test Track. This new official product test track will be signposted in the very near future so that every one can ride the same trail and compare products on a level playing field (speaking figuratively).

They make Mountainbike stuff stronger than riders, although Mr. K proved his talent for wrecking stuff that is near indestructible. There were some truly surprising results from the bikes tested, but you will have to wait for the new issue of Bicycling to hear all about it, or Sean will have a frothy, and justifiably soJ!

Speaking of Mr K, his absence was noted at the crack of dawn by the Muggers and Beanettes who rolled out of bed to terrorise the trails at Logwood Bike Haven as the sun came up (expect photos on the website in the next day or so).

He pitched later in the day to ride with Christoph Sauser, and pleaded ignorance and blamed Richard Beswick…the honest look in his eyes makes me believe him. Mr K’s remarkable high speed crash at the sleeper bridge at the end of Organ Grinder whilst on the wheel of a rapidly moving Christoph with Bryce Munro yelling to get past must have been the highlight of my day! I fell over and crashed from laughing.

Scorching temperatures greeted the crew who turned out to ride with Christoph…and what a day it was. Specialized Bikes (SA) really spared nothing on the lucky folks who turned up to ride whilst the wheels of industry ground to a disturbing halt in Joburg and Pretoria ( and Nelspruit). Terry the Spinman must be thanked for masterminding this mid-week episode of delinquent behaviour that so typifies the Mountainbiker Mindset.

Christoph really must be the nicest and most approachable superstar of Mountianbiking that I have yet to meet.

The hospitality of Specialized extended to post ride carbo-loading products produced in Windhoek and consumed straight from the can…and we all lamented that if we had had the same opportunities and bling Gucci bikes that Christoph had we would be as fast as him. He didn’t seem to actually pedal that S-Works to make it sail silently past.

Tomorrow night the Hooligans (note capital letter) from Dark n Dirty are coming to play, so we will remain open till 10pm for those with lights…so all you guys who have a burning desire to see another side of Logwood Bike Haven and join in the fireside festivities afterward bring lights and then beer…in that order!

Till then keep the rubber side down,

Geoff the Aussie

PS: Expect the pics from the Ride with Christoph Day to be on the site in the next day or two (www.cultcycling.co.za)
