Race reports:
Albstadt, Germany - Alban Lakata is the new European champion marathon. The Dolphin-Trek rider was quite nervous in the beginning as he was named as one of the favourites of the race. 'The first part really went bad, it got to my nerves to be honest that I was one the guys they were watching, after an hour of racing I got through it and my legs felt really good!'. 'We attacked and I was pacing all the time, finally I was able to go solo and claim my biggest victory in my young career!". "I'm so delighted to be back on toplevel and that my team has kept confidence despite a less fortunate period after the Cape Epic'. In the women's race 2 starters for the Dolphin-Trek team; Fabienne Heinzmann had to abandon after stomach problems and Katrin Schwing pulled out a 7th place overall which was a satisfying result.
Willingen, Germany - Bart Brentjens (Dolphin-Trek) has won the 123km marathon race at the Bike Festival of Willingen. Brentjens and teammate Chris Jongewaard already gained a 3minute lead over 30km of marathon racing. Unfortunately Jongewaard had to abandon race after his tire was ripped from hitting a rock. Bart Brentjens continued solo and just killed the competition by finishing 12 minutes ahead of runner-up Andreas Strobel of Germany. Brentjens finished in a time of 4h45m. The 2008 edition of the 'Wheels of Speed' international downhill race is won by British worldcup winner Gee Atherton (Animal-Commencal). Second and third finished Filip Polc (Cze) and Andrew Neethling (Zaf). Dolphin-Trek rider Nico Vink of Belgium got a good result by finishing 8th overall in this worldclass field.
